00:08:17To help their fevers, aches and pains feel better.
00:09:26Are you really going to wear that?
00:09:28This is areal football uniform-- the kind that men wore.
00:09:36This is all the protection we needed.
00:09:40Tell him how you were carriedoff the field.
00:09:44Only to get your attention.
00:09:48My boy, you are about to become a part of the huxtable tradition.
00:09:54Starting with your great-great- grandfather-- general theo huxtable.
00:10:00My great-great-grandfather was a general?
00:10:04No, that was his nickname.
00:10:07General?
00:10:08He gave it to himself because he was a big man and a man that size when he said, "call me general" everybody said okay.
00:10:18So here we go.
00:10:19Hey, that's real interesting.
00:10:21Tell me more.
00:10:23No, we don't have time.
00:10:25We have to get out there.
00:10:27Here we go!
00:10:29Hut two!
00:10:30No, don't rub it.
00:10:32That's the calcium deposit building up.
00:10:35Play ball!
00:10:36Hut! hut! hut!
00:10:39(groan) Move the feet! move the feet!
00:10:42General, I'm sending you one.
00:10:47Rudy?
00:10:51Rudy, please talk to me.
00:10:54I could come in, if you like.
00:11:08Hi.
00:11:11You know, rudy, you've really got it rough.
00:11:14You're the youngest in the family and nobody wants to play with you.
00:11:20They tease you.
00:11:22You wonder if there's anything worse than being five.
00:11:25There is-- four.
00:11:28Five is better than four?
00:11:30Yes. they're babies.
00:11:32So be proud of being five-- " think of all the things five-year-olds can do.
00:11:40You can tie your own shoelaces.
00:11:43..
00:11:45Go to kindergarten.
00:11:47Last year you couldn't do that.
00:11:49Because I was nothing.
00:11:52No, you were never nothing.
00:11:55You just weren't five.
00:11:56I'm five now.
00:11:57And you can do things you couldn't do before.
00:12:01What about that?
00:12:03Yay, five.
00:12:06Yay, five.
00:12:08Mommy, how old are you?
00:12:11Old.
00:12:12Yay, old.
00:12:22All right, just remember-- keep your center of gravity low shoulders square.
00:12:28Got it, dad. you've got it.
00:12:30Take a shower.
00:12:33Dad, you really showed me a lot out there.
00:12:36You've got some great moves for a guy your age.
00:12:40I figure I won't completely fall apart until next week sometime.
00:12:49How does he look?
00:12:55Cliff, your eyes.
00:12:57I don't think they're going to dance for a while.
00:13:03Tell me about it.
00:13:04I went out there with no preconceived ideas.
00:13:09Do you understand?
00:13:11I just wanted to see what the boy has.
00:13:15The boy has nothing.
00:13:20He made the team.
00:13:21There are 45 people on the football team.
00:13:25Only 22 of them get to play.
00:13:27The other 23 are to keep the bench from flying up in the air when the real players go out there.
00:13:35Start from the beginning.
00:13:37We get out to the field.
00:13:39The boy snatches the ball from me runs down to the end zone, spikes the ball and then starts to do some kind of dance.
00:13:50For 20 minutes he danced.
00:13:52I thought rain was going to fall.
00:13:56Then the boy comes running back and says to me, "how do you like my dance " " the boy is not going to score.
00:14:13He must have some skills.
00:14:15I threw the ball to him, he caught it.
00:14:20There you go.
00:14:20No-- I said, "son, it's better " okay, so he's not a receiver.
00:14:29" he took the ball, kicked it.
00:14:33The ball went backwards.
00:14:36In order for him to kick in the game they center the ball to him, he catches it turns around, thenhe kicks the ball.
00:14:49I see you shaking your head, saying "football " you're not one?
00:14:55No.
00:14:55A-ha.
00:14:56A-ha what?
00:14:57The first sign of being one is denial.
00:15:01I know what a football father is.
00:15:04I'm telling you that right now theo is terrible.
00:15:09He's 13, and if you tell him that, it will destroy him.
00:15:14I didn't tell him.
00:15:17I'm tellingyou.
00:15:20Is he really that bad?
00:15:23Worse.
00:15:26Dad?
00:15:27Yes, theo, my boy.
00:15:31I've been thinking about the huxtable football tradition.
00:15:34Is there room in it for a guy who's not a star?
00:15:39Sure.
00:15:40I might not get much playing time at all-- like maybe none.
00:15:46Whatever you do, we'll be in the stands cheering you on.
00:15:51Thanks, mom.
00:15:52You, too, dad?
00:15:57What was the question?
00:16:00Will you be cheering?
00:16:01Oh, I'll have your mother on my shoulders.
00:16:05I've got a lot to learn, huh?
00:16:08Well, you know, you have your dance down pat.
00:16:13You've got that covered.
00:16:14Now all you have to do is learn the skills that will put you into the end zone so you can do your wonderful dance.
00:16:25That could take weeks.
00:16:27Years.
00:16:29!
00:16:31Notrealyears.
00:16:32I mean, you play in the fall only.
00:16:37The question you have to ask yourself is is it worth it?
00:16:44I'm just happy to be on the team.
00:16:46Really?
00:16:47When we're practicing, kids come around and watch.
00:16:50They can't come on the field because they're not on the team.
00:16:54I may never make first string, but I'm on the field.
00:17:02Okay.
00:17:03But you better keep that bench from flying up.
00:17:08What?
00:17:09No, I'm dead serious.
00:17:10When that team runs out there you let that bench fly up and hit somebody in the head ..
00:17:19Mom, what's he talking about?
00:17:21..
00:17:26..
00:17:51There it is.
00:17:52The groverton game.
00:17:54And I still cannot understand why they didn't go to me.
00:18:00I think I can.
00:18:02You're kidding. why?
00:18:03Five minutes left on the clock and your team has the ball.
00:18:08They hand it to someone who breaks through the line.
00:18:12He gets hit.
00:18:13But that doesn't stop him because he's got some moves.
00:18:18He's spinning by the tacklers, leaping over the linebackers.
00:18:22I won't say who the someone is.
00:18:25No.
00:18:26But the someone is in this room.
00:18:29In this room?
00:18:30Now, there is no one between the someone and the goal line and as he's racing down the field he turns to look at his fiancee.
00:18:40He holds the ball up and waves to her.
00:18:43What a man.
00:18:45As he brings the ball down, his knee comes up knocks the ball backwards into the hands of the groverton tackler who runs in the opposite direction and scores.
00:18:55Now, who did that?
00:18:57Toby wilson.
00:19:01He's not here.
00:19:02Clair huxtable.
00:19:04No.
00:19:04I was just trying to show you that I loved you.
00:19:09You were showing off.
00:19:11It will be a cold day ..

00:26:25He said I couldn't go into bookman's.
00:26:27Dad, bookman'sis a menswear store.
00:26:30Menswear store-- no mothers allowed.
